"Dressage is for everyone."

A simple statement - a world of meaning.

I work with people of all riding disciplines and breeds of horses. I've had considerable success working with hunter riders who have had problems with their horse running out on course, or having an inconsistent pace. Western pleasure riders and reiners have found that the principles of good training apply (even if you call it dressage!) to help improve their horses.

Asymmetry in riders presents difficulty for horses. This can be corrected by careful observation and analysis, then making suggestions on a change in position or application of the aids.

Correct tack selection and fitting is essential for good performance, the comfort of the horse, and the safety of both horse and rider - in and out of the show ring.

Sometimes people have basic but perplexing issues:

  • What do I need to do with my horse?
  • My horse won't canter.
  • My horse won't turn.
  • What am I doing wrong?

Professional Trainer's Clinic with John Lyons

My work with John Lyons completely changed my life.

During the past ten years I tried to audit every clinic and symposium that he offered. The week I spent at the Professional Trainer's Clinic in June 2006 allowed me to work one-on-one with John and share ideas with trainers from all around the East Coast, South and Midwest.

John's way of stressing the simplest and easiest way to get results was different from what many teachers had shown me. His horses understood what he wanted and at whatever point in their training they were - they gave him this incredible softness and obedience. I saw that the simple approach is best. At the same time, John says we need to be more specific in our requests to the horse because vagueness doesn't work.
